Product description:  Packed goodness almond, this product holds all the essential vitamins and nutrients that are needed to nourish the delicate under eye. It holds a light weight formula that gets absorbed by the skin easily and is meant for treating puffy and dark pigmented eyes.

Key Ingredients:The product contains Wheat Germ Oil, Vitamin E, Chamomile Extracts, Olive Oil Extracts, D-Panthenol, Demethicone and Almond oil.

My Experience based on product: it’s a white cream based product which gets absorbed easily without leaving any residue. Mine is a combination skin and till date it didn’t break me out. It has a very mild yet pleasant fragrance which evaporates instantly upon application

My Experience based on Performance
: I have just turned 35yrs and really regret why I didn’t start with an under eye cream earlier. I don’t have any dark circles or puffiness under my eyes but recently I changed my job and now I am having night shifts, which make my eyes look dull and lifeless. After I started using this particular eye cream (which happens to be my first one) I have noticed my under eye looking more moisturized and nourished. I have been using this product for almost ten days and I do see my fine lines easing out.  I religiously apply it twice every day after my CTM in the morning and night and before applying makeup as well. It makes my eyes look brighter and prevents my makeup from creasing.

As I don’t have prominent dark circles so I am not in a position to comment much on that regards but for beginners this is a must tried product.

Pros:

  • Moisturizes and nourishes the under eye area
  • Reduction in fine lines
  • Affordable
  • Not oily /greasy, does not break out.
  • Soft and mild fragrance
  • Easy to carry around.
  • Does not sting if goes inside eyes.
  • Eye makeup looks brighter
  • Not tested on animals, recyclable packaging and 100% veg product

VLCC Almond under eye cream_5

Cons:

  • May not be effective on intense dark circles and fine lines
  • Unhygienic tub packaging

Overall Rating: 4

For beginners and girls with less prominent dark circles and fine lines this is a perfect under eye cream within budget to start with.

Fabindia Vitamin E Sunscreen SPF 30

Beauty and Beautiful, Sunscreen

Skin Type: Combination

Complexion: Dusky

Last January we celebrated our 6th anniversary in Goa and needless to say I had come back with a stubborn tan, dry skin and rashes. Anything I applied, my skin used to burn like hell.  It’s then that I stopped using everything and switched to only two products 1. Aloe vera gel from Red soil (which I got from a local medical shop in Goa and 2.  Fabindia Vitamin E Sunscreen SPF 30.

Price: INR 350/- available in nykaa.com

Quantity: 120 ml (115g)

Shelf Life: 36 months

Product Claims: Made with effective ingredients that prevent damage from the harmful UV rays, it avoids sunburn and also suppresses tanning.

Fabindia Vitamin E Sunscreen SPF 30_2

My Experience based on the product: I make sure I always apply sunscreen at least 20-30 mins before I step out. Fabindia Vitamin E Sunscreen SPF 30 is a lint mint colored cream based product with a mild fragrance which is really soothing to my nose. It at once relaxes me. The color of the cream is similar to the color of the tube. While application it seems to be a little greasy but after 5-10 mins get absorbed in the skin so I make sure that apply it at least 20-30 mins before stepping out in the sun.

For oily and combination skin you can skip using moisturizer cause this product includes glycerine and vitamin E which provide enough moisturization. For dry skin you may consider using a moisturizer prior to application. This product leaves no white cast.

Fabindia Vitamin E Sunscreen SPF 30_3

My experience based on the Performance: As I already mentioned that after coming back from Goa my skin was dehydrated, tanned and parched like barren land and this sunscreen along with Red Soil Aloe vera gel (separate post for that coming soon) came for my rescue. This very first time when I applied my skin felt relaxed, the smell, the texture everything was so soothing to the rashes. After a week I found my tan fading and my rashes also subsided. It prevents tanning and adds glow to your face. However, it’s not water proof so for people who sweat heavily or are involved with lot of outdoor sports or swimming then it’s not for you.

 Pros:

  • Prevent tanning
  • Effecting on skin rashes which resulted from tanning
  • Mild soothing fragrance and color.
  • Does not leave any white cast.
  • For oily and combination skin this serves as a moisturizer even.
  • Can be used under makeup.
  • Not tested on animals

Cons:

  • Not water-resistant.

Overall rating: 4.0

To conclude it’s a good sunscreen which serves the claims it makes. I highly recommend and right now I am on the verge of finishing my second consecutive tube.

Garnier BB Cream – Miracle Skin Protector

BB Cream

Hello Girls,

I had heard a lot on BB creams and wondered actually what is meant by a BB cream. Then Maybelline came with its own BB cream. I had a huge urge for buying it but didn’t buy it. Now don’t ask me why because I also don’t know why I didn’t try it. But when I saw Garnier coming with their BB cream I knew I am going to own this and the moment I saw it in Health and Glow, it made its way to my daily routine.

Company Says:

Is BB cream right for me?

Gar_BB_2_GH

My experience:
I feel all that has been claimed by the company stands true to a great extent. I don’t expect a miracle product but at least a product which decently does what it claims. The cream is really light weight with a sweet mild smell which is loved by my nose. I apply the cream in dots all over my face and neck and with my clean finger tips spread it evenly. It doesn’t take much time to get absorbed. And once absorbed it leaves back a nice matte glow and feels really light on the skin and makes your skin very soft to touch. My skin was oil free throughout the day. But girls with very dry skin may require moisturizing prior to application.

I don’t know in the long run if it’s going to help my skin get perfect but at least post application is evens out my skin tone but fails to cover all the dark spots.

The best thing I love about this product is – it moisturizes, gives a foundation finish and protects my skin from sun damage. Now I need not carry 3-4 products in my vanity.

But it comes in only one shade

To summarize: – A decent product. This is not a miracle product so please don’t expect miracles to happen else you will get depressed resulting in dark circles. Lol.

Pros:
Very Light weight.
Spreads evenly
Post application provides a soft and matte glow.
Helps skin to remain oil-free,
Mild soothing fragrance.
Gives sheer coverage
Budget friendly
Packaging is quite cute yet sturdy and travel friendly
Availability
Over all an all-in-one product (moisturizer + foundation + sun protection)

Cons:Only one shade is available.
Dry skin may require additional moisturization

Overall rating: 4.5/5

My recommendation: I will try and stick to this until I get something better and at the same time would recommend everybody to try this at least once.

The Game of Power

Awareness

The Game of Power.

What is Rape all about? Is it all about lust and excitement? No its nothing but the feeling which says “I am Superior”. It’s the Game of Power. Most of us may have experienced this situation in a crowded place. Irrespective of age color or size, when we are shopping in those street shops, or travelling in a crowded bus or train or simply walking down the footpath. All of a sudden somebody smack your back and gets diluted in the crowd or push you or simply try to touch you. Do you think the boy or man was sexually aroused or lust you. No. never…It’s just a feeling which tells them that “you are a Man, You are
Superior, you have the right of doing this”.And when the girl’s protests, their supremacy are hurt. They take this as an insult and start to devise plans on how to take revenge on her.

We girls are not lesser in any attributes except a social stigma that was again created by Man himself to maintain his highness. A man knows that he cannot affect a girl in any other way except this one single way. In the recent incident “that animal” lost his control because Amanat/Damini was giving him a tough fight. Instead of surrendering to him, she protested. She hurt his Little Male Ego and he taught her a good lesson.

In our society, in every home it’s taught that girls/women should keep quite and tolerate because a man is the head of the family. Then what are we??? Where do we stand?

Did we ever think who has given this power? Its we..And today it’s again we, who are suffering. In some ways our society are more matured. Where a family brings up a son and daughter equally with equal dignity and some still remain with this thought that daughters are a curse to the family. They are just fit to be in the kitchen and in the Bed. And when people from these two mentalities collide it gives rise to incidences like this.

We do have Men who are loving fathers, protective brothers, who respect each girl they meet and there are some who believes that there is only one way to prove your power of manhood and that is when you cripple a woman’s sanity. Until we have an educated society which will bridge these two strata’s of thinking, such incidences would continue to happen

DIY: Facewash, Scrub and Pack

Beauty and Beautiful

Dear All

Post Pregnancy my skin lost all its charm, it may be due to the huge hormonal change, Bangalore weather, stress, work pressure, lack of sleep (mother of a toddler). Tried lots of products, some helped and some didn’t. The glow was still missing. So finally thought of putting an end on wasting all my money on those magic products, which are actually of no use and stick to my kitchen recipes. As kids our mother was strictly against the use of chemical products and had always encouraged the use of easily available kitchen products.

The DIY, which I am going to share today is what I am using every day and within 3-4 days I did see a change in myself.

Ingredients:-
1. Besan

2. Milk Powder

DIY_Milk Power

DIY_Milk Power

3. Turmeric (optional)

Turmeric

Mix besan and milk powder in equal quantities and little turmeric, again if you want to. Then pass the mixture through a sieve several times. This ensures a uniform mixture and as well removes any hard unwanted particles. You can store this mixture in any air-tight container and keep it for future use.

I have kept it in my bath room and everyday use it at least twice. Once in the morning and once before going to bed, following it up with a moisturizer.

Just mix a little water and make a paste and apply it on my face. Keep it for 20-30 secs and wash off. The days I need to scrub just slowly rub it in circular directions and wash off. For a face pack I keep it on my face still it dries and wash off for that glowing skin.

This can be used as a bodywash even. Just dampen your body and apply it evenly all over. Again as per your requirement you can use it as a wash, scrub or pack.
You can even mix it with coconut oil and any other oil of your choice when using as a body wash.

After one week I do see my black scars fading and there is an even glow on my face. The tan on my hands and neck have faded.

You can add, remove or edit the ingredients as per your skin type or choice. Like when I have some extra time, I mix curd and honey to the mixture.

If you have any more suggestions please let me know.

Where the mind is without Fear.

Beauty and Beautiful, Short Stories

With all that’s happening around us, I can say I am scared. I am scared for myself, my daughter, sister, niece, mother, friends rather the entire female gender. Starting from female feticide, child abuse, rape…..why??? Why are we treated this way? It’s so disheartening so live amidst this society where crime after crime is being committed and no action is taken.
There is one Tagore’s poem that’s coming to my mind –“Where the mind is without Fear”

Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high
Where knowledge is free
Where the world has not been broken up into fragments
By narrow domestic walls
Where words come out from the depth of truth
Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection
Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way
Into the dreary desert sand of dead habit
Where the mind is led forward by thee
Into ever-widening thought and action
Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake.

To our counterpart gender-To all the fathers, brothers, uncles, friends and so on…We love you, Trust you. Please if you can’t love us at least give us some respect and let us live fearlessly. Please Let us live with dignity. Don’t make us believe that it’s a curse being born as a daughter.
Will a day come when we –Girls can really wake up to a fearless and free country, with equality of thoughts and respect?

Maybelline Colorsentional_Pure Passion

Maybelline

Hi All,

I guess there would be any girl who won’t own at least a lipstick or two. Few days back I was cleaning my closet and notice all my lipstick were more than 3yrs old and its time I need to trash them and then I was left with none. There was absolute vacuum within, God I don’t have a single lipstick. Next was Monday and entire day I was feeling so low. So while returning home I stopped to get my Lipstick.

After marriage I was so busy with this new life, location change, new colleagues and a complete different language that I hardly had any time for myself. Then came pregnancy and I almost lost the “Me” thing in myself and all simple grooming articles were out of my mind. I was really clueless about which lipstick to buy and the colors.
I just walked in the mall and the first counter was Maybelline, and I stopped there. After going through a lot of swatches I zeroed down on Maybelline Coloresensational-Plum Shade. It’s a deep plum shade. For me it’s like deep maroon shade. It’s a complete festive color, highly pigmented packed in a mettalic cherry red case. Just one swipe is enough. It would be better to use a lip liner to outline and define your lips to get that “Fuller” look else you can use a brush instead.

As compared to the lipsticks from the same range its moisturization capacity is less. It stays on the lips for around 2 hrs and then starts to fade evenly leaving a reddish stain behind. As it fades out it leaves the lips dry and settling down is fine lines which are so unattractive. So I had to constantly apply my Lotus chapstick. But what I noticed was the reddish stain remained intact till I used my baby oil to remove it. It survived almost 6-7 hrs with meals in between.
This is not at all an office wear , but I was so happy gifting myself a lipstick after three years that I applied it to office the very next day. After reaching office it was quite embarrassing for me. This shade is for festive season or any functions, mainly a night wear.

GH_PP_3

GH_PP_3

GH_PP_4

GH_PP_4

Pros:
highly pigmented just one swipe is enough
Makes lips look plum and full.
Leaves an even stain
No distinguishable odor
Affordable-220 INR

Cons
 Has a tendency to settle down in fine lines
 Makes lips dry while fading out.
Rating: 3.25/5 (the drying factor)

I won’t buy this; there are better options in terms of color and quality available in the same range. So would try other colors now.

Coloressence Compact Powder-Ivory Beige

Beauty and Beautiful, Coloressence

Hello Friends,

After reading few good reviews about Maybelline clear glow Compact, I decided on trying one. I am of dusky complexion with normal to dry skin, but the SA from Health and Glow trapped me in buying the Natural shade. I kept on saying that I need to do a swatch test because I feel that the shade is light for me but she was adamant that this shade was for me. As I am still very new to makeup I believed her. But when I came back home I was very disappointed with the SA because this shade was indeed a shade lighter than my complexion and left a white cast behind. It was then I thought of trying Coloressence. I have used Natures’ essence products and liked them so I have faith in them.
I got this compact from a local drug store where they didn’t have a tester for this shade. But I knew this shade-Ivory Beige, was for me.

Packaging: I personally like the packaging. They have the same packaging style for almost all their products.
Product Description: This unique soft textured powder helps to control the sweat and give a smooth coverage to the skin; thereby hiding the spots and freckles.

Experience: For the price that I paid and my past experience with Maybelline, I had very little expectation from this product. But it has completely delighted me. This compact gives me medium coverage. Basically I have clear skin so medium coverage is okay for me. The puff provided is just okay, neither too good nor too poor. It does its job quite efficiently I can say. And yes it does stand by its claim that it provides a smooth and matte finish post application. If you see the swatches the shade is exactly the same as my complexion so no white cast.

The powder is light and does not feel heavy on the skin and controls shine. Its odorless so even sensitive nose would be happy. I apply this almost by 6:30 am and return back home at 5:30pm. If I re-apply after 4-5 hrs, by the time I am back home my look still remains fresh. No break-outs have been observed yet.
I wish they would have mentioned the entire ingredients list instead of “Active Ingredients”. As the product has 3yrs of shelf life, I presume it does contain chemical preservatives, which is quite common.
I feel for the price that I have paid; I am really very happy with the product and would loyally stick to it until I get something better than this.

Pros:
 Shade nearest to my complexion
 Matte and smooth finish
 Controls shine but impart a subtle glow
 Affordable.
 Easily available
Cons:
 Nothing from my point of view.
Rating: 5/5

Disclaimer: The Review is based on my experience with the product, which depends on my skin, complexion, my way of using it, climatic conditions and life style.

Opportunities’

Beauty and Beautiful

Today while coming for office, I was standing in the traffic signal I noticed a beggar affected with Leprosy was asking for alms while crossing the road. He was an old man with high powered spectacles. His limbs were bandaged with white dirty cloth and his legs bore infections filled with pus. He was barely able to walk with the support of the stick but still managed to beg under the scorching sun. He was attending every vehicle which stood under the red signal asking for some help. Some were generous enough to give him few pennies while other shoo him away especially for the wounds he bore on his body.

Just then I noticed a lady waiting for the signal next to me in her Alto. She opened her purse and took a fifty rupees note and kept it in her hand waiting for the poor beggar. The beggar unaware of this kept on pestering the people who were waiting for the signal to turn green. He kept on nagging and nagging. Some scolded him; some simply avoided him as if he didn’t exist and a few, just to get rid of him gave him few coins and turned away their faces.

By the time the beggar came to this lady who was waiting just behind him, the signal turned green. I saw the lady putting the money back in the purse and driving away.

This small incidence made me realize that we keep on knocking closed doors expecting some huge rewards and in return never notice an opportunity which awaits us. If the beggar wouldn’t have been nagging behind those cold souls and moved on to the next available opportunity he would have received Rs 50/- and that also with dignity and a kind hearted gesture. Instead he kept on pestering the closed doors, where he received nothing but rude behavior and harsh words.

In many such incidences in life we keep on knocking those closed doors where the ultimate result is just frustration and failure, instead look around it may be we are missing on that one life changing opportunity. Just be aware and move on.

Where is the Difference?

Education

Today as I was feeding my year old daughter in the morning I was showing her all the various big construction vehicles standing just opposite to our window. Our flat is surrounded by three apartments under construction, so you can understand the amount of dust and noise and of course the condition of the roads due to these heavy construction vehicles.  Around 7:30am I noticed a mini truck offloading labors’ and their families just opposite to our window. Though this was just a usual sight for me but all of a sudden I started comparing.

My daughter is 14 months old, having her home made breakfast with me nagging and running behind her and she covered enough to protect her from the cool breeze and just opposite I see mothers tying their kids to their back. Some kids may be of my daughters age, some few months older and some even younger. Wearing dirty, torn, faded clothes just enough to cover their little bodies and not to mention their bare feet.  As they were getting down from the truck, they started settling down their belongings, which included utensils, food materials and bare necessities. It seems they travel with their entire world in those little bags. Our kids play on the mattress with risk proof branded toys and their kids play on the sand with bricks and broken timber. Eat what they get and sleep on the sand itself.

It was then I started thinking that they work since 8 am in the morning till sunset, under scorching heat, risking their lives and even their family and manage to earn  may be somewhere near about Rs. 150/- at the end of the day or even less. And we work for the same duration, sitting in AC cabins, sending our kids to good play school where they are given the best professional care possible and earn may be 10 times more per day if not more. Our kids sleep under AC on good mattresses and their kids sleep under the scorching heat on the burning sand. Then I asked myself why? Why is there so much of difference? And the answer is EDUCATION, I get paid for my knowledge and they get paid for their physical work.

Its education which ensures a better life if not the best. But with that comes the question of money. These labors are like vagabonds. Where there is work they travel. Still if they try they can even educate their kids. Though money is a prime criterion but there are options which can be considered like “Anganwadi”. But what they need is encouragement. Encouragement from people like us. If we can encourage them and if possible try to sponsor one child I think a change can be bought. It’s said if one member of the family is educated then the other members follow. If not with money atleast we can try and donate our old clothes and toys to them. Just try once, I can assure you the moment you see them wearing your old clothes and playing with our old broken toys the joy and satisfaction you get would bring a change in you.

Lets help them and bring a change in our society.
